From ancient villages to farming communities

On the trail of the past

A place rich in history and culture

Once upon a time, Burgraviato – as the name suggests - was an area inhabited mainly by nobles. Castel Tirolo, historical seat of the counts of the homonymous territory as well as Merano, with status as a spa town, has long been the centre of the aristocracy. Even today, the Merano area attracts visitors for its timeless Mediterranean charm in the Art Nouveau style mixed with typical mountain traditions. In addition, over the years, the ancient cultural heritage of the area has been carefully preserved and is still enhanced today.

Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

In 1870, Trauttmansdorff Castle became the winter residence of Empress Sissi, thus making the city of Merano a popular destination for spa treatments. After many years, the 12-hectares of land around the castle was transformed into a splendid botanical garden attracting numerous visitors from all over the world.

Merano

Over the years, this splendid South Tyrolean city has been able to preserve numerous historic Art Nouveau-style buildings, which, together with palm trees, olive trees and cypresses, evoke a romantic and classic charm to the city streets.

Terme di Merano

An authentic oasis of relaxation in the heart of the city. The large sauna area, the fitness centre, the indoor pools as well as the outdoor park with more pools and lots of vegetation make the Terme di Merano a very popular destination for those who want to enjoy precious moments of well-being.

Castel Tirolo

What was once the residence of the Counts of Tirolo, today houses the birdlife recovery centre and the South Tyrol cultural and historical museum, where interesting thematic exhibitions are on display.
